Last Meet of the Winter

Sunday Feb 26th, Haweswater

Not sure what the weather will be like but (famous last words) it can’t get much colder than January’s walk off Coniston Old Man! The intention is to walk up Gatesgarth Pass and onto Harter Fell and then across to High Street & then Kidsty Pike and back down to Haweswater via Kidsty Howes.

More details are in the recent email sent to the Meets email list, by Ian Philips. Please contact Ian if you’re going to come along.

Not sure if anyone else has read Wild Fell by Lee Schofield, the site manager for the RSPB Haweswater Nature Reserve? The route takes in some of the land managed by the RSPB where the charity is looking at ways to restore biodiversity into the landscape. The book is definitely a good read, (and was recently reviewed in The Guardian)

Short upland circuit from Cae Ysgubor

On Thursday our Wales Hut warden led a local group on a fine short-ish upland circuit from the doorstep of Cae Ysgubor. It’s only a short stroll from our hut over to nearby Craflwyn Hall, from which there is a fine waymarked path which runs over to the foot of Dinas Emrys and then zig-zags gently up the adjacent valley, with some fine views of Moel Siabod and Nant Gwynant.

We never met a soul, (other than a group of three feral mountain goats!) The path eventually descends to meet the Watkin Path (a well-trodden Snowdon route), down to the car park at Pont Bethania. From there it’s just a short walk back to the hut along the shore of Llyn Dinas. Well worth doing next time you’re down at Cae Ysgubor.

Our Wales Bunkhouse gets new technology

Many of our members love to escape the hubub of modern Lancashire living to enjoy the adventure and quiet serenity of Snowdonia at Cae Ysgubor, our Beddgelert bunkhouse. Even so, in our ever-changing technological world, LMC is now able to provide access on site to both a reliable broadband service and a couple of electric vehicle charging points.

CY facilities

(Hut visitors wishing to use the EV charge point will need to have their LMC Hut Keyfob enabled for this purpose, as this is used to give access to the charger. More info from the Cae Ysgubor hut warden).
