Early March members weekend at CY

Here in North Wales it seems to have rained just about every day this year since January. Fortunately, we actually had a sunny day last Saturday, on a weekend on which our hut at Cae Ysgubor was booked specifically as a “Members’ Weekend”. So, here is a taster of what we got up to…

Some of the mountain biking trails at Coed-y-Brenin

We headed out to the Coed-y-Brenin forest park so that the grown-ups could get out on the mountain-biking trails. Hut-warden Roger suggested that we based ourselves at Ty’n-y-Groes as it’s a quieter spot at the southern end of the trails, which proved a good choice. Roger took up his grand-parenting duties and headed off into the woodland with the little-ies, whilst the grown-ups took to the hills and burned off some calories and adrenalin.

The trails at Coed-y-Brenin are well route-marked and the surfaces are firm even after bad weather,

The Cae Ysgubor hut always feels like a welcome place to return to after a long day in the outdoors. Plenty of space. A decent shower. It works well as a base for a wide variety of activities, whatever the weather.

Sunday was a bit of a damp day. Back to Welsh weather normality! Well, there are ways of keeping up one’s cardio and step count without tackling summits, it seems….

Eventually, our CY visitors head homewards and (after a well earned siesta) it’s time to close off the day down by the estuary:
